As part of the milestone celebration, include doing something the person really enjoys. This is about the least you can do. It could be as simple as playing a special game, watching a movie, having a picnic, buying pizza. If you are not sure you can even ask the milestone maker or give them a few options.
Of course if it’s a baby that not be possible but you would still be able to figure out what that baby enjoys by their first milestone. It may be a nice quiet walk, or an extended bath or playtime for a baby. Whatever you choose remember it is all about the one you are celebrating. Give it your full and best attention.
5. Let others know about the milestone
Hey everyone! Today we have a big announcement for you. Guess who….Let other members of your family know about the milestone. Most people will certainly love celebrating with you. Remember milestones only come around once in a lifetime so make it something to talk about.
Sometimes the experience can be bitter-sweet, but it’s still worth mentioning. Even your triumph is a moment where a milestone was a challenge can help someone else to deal with their own when they get to that point.
6. Create a milestone memory box
Just in case you are not up to scrapbooking. Here is an alternative for you. Create a milestone box. You’ll need a shoebox that you can refinish with some gift paper or you can also purchase a gift box to use for this project. Label the box according to the milestone you are celebrating. In the box, you can place photos, and write a letter or note about the milestone. If there is an item that reminds you of the milestone, you can include that too. You can even add notes from others who celebrated with you to the milestone box.
I am sure once you start you will have an overflow of ideas. I must add here that the best thing about making the scrapbook and the milestone box is that you can add other milestones to these two as they come along life’s way.
7. Pray and give thanks To God for the milestone
This is about the best thing that you can do for yourself and your child as you celebrate that milestone, pray and give thanks to God for where they have arrived at or achieved. It’s always good to get God involved in every part of your child and family life. After all, He is the life-giver.
So take some time to do these two simple things
- Write a special thanksgiving prayer that you can add to your milestone box. Read the prayer for your child and, be sure to let them know that it is a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the particular milestone.
- Anoint your child with anointing oil, pray for them and bless them.
Wrapping up this milestone celebration.

Make each milestone memorable. Talk about the milestones even if your child is really small, don’t think they don’t understand that something significant is happening. I personally recognize when I had my children that they certainly do understand.
