Who is your family’s favorite Bible Character? Pretend play is always a great way for children to engage in learning lessons and valuable life skills.
Pretend play is also a great way to bring your child’s favorite bible characters to life in a personal way. In this post I share how you can have a Bible Character Play Day Event right at home. It can be part of a fun family activity or a simple exercise you want to do with your child to reinforce a bible lesson, or a week long family event.
Have Your Very own Bible Character Play Day
As part of your bible character play day adventure I have included my free Bible Character Sketch Worksheets, a fun simple game, two event announcements and 16 characters you can choose from for your Character play day along with one more surprise. Make the bible come alive with your very own Bible character play event. You don’t need a whole lot to make this happen. Below is a breakdown of some things you can do as you consider having a Bible character day event.
Start Your Bible Character Play Day with A Count Down
When you decide to try this fun activity, start with a count down. Countdowns build excitement and each day have a different way of making the countdown fun. I recommend 3 – 5 days or 7 for the most. You don’t want to lose the excitement.
Announce the activity – Start with an announcement. Make it simple but, exciting. You can do a small chart with the activity for each day, but only reveal the activity for the current day. I have included two free printable announcements you can choose from if you don’t have the time to make one.
Choose a character– write about five bible characters you will be willing to use on paper, place them in a box and have your child choose one from the box. This adds to the excitement. Also, it may help the child to feel they are the one who made the choice and not you making the final decision. It may help to use bible characters you know your child likes for the play day. I have included 16 popular bible characters for you to choose from for your play day.
Bible Character Play Day - Day 1
Begin to talk about the Bible Character
Read the bible story related to the chosen character. Have a discussion about what you read and write down key points about the character and their relationship about God. Their life, what made them great and what they were most remembered for? You can use my bible character worksheets for this activity. After have a quiz related to what you learn and play for point if you can, especially helpful with older children.
Bible Character Play Day - Day 2
Do several activities related to the character
Look for activities you can do to reinforce the aspects of these bible characters. These can help children understand how life probably was for the character. Activities can be as simple as coloring a picture related to the story, doing crafts, object lessons, games etc. related to the character. You can do these inside or outside if you have the space to.

Aspects of Adams Life – Naming the animals
Activity – Animal photo matching game
Cut out animals from old magazines. For older children use a larger number of photos, for smaller children use 5 – 7 photos.
Write the names of each animal on a separate strip of paper
Randomly spread photos and names on the floor or table.
(you can turn then over for older children)
Using a timer see who can match the animal to the name the fastest
Have fun with your activities and use them to remind children of the character you are learning about.

Bible Character Play Day 3
Have a movie night or a movie day
Together with your children make some lite snacks and sit a watch a movie or television show related to the bible character you decide to choose. My children love Superbook. The stories are dynamic and a real adventure for them as they dive in with Joy, Chris and Gizmo. David and Goliath is a hit for my 5 year old son. He enjoys playing David while Dad plays Goliath. Look for an age appropriate version of a movie or show with the character you choose. There is a special surprise for you related to this activity in my free Bible Character Play Day Activity package
Bible Character Play Day 4
Learn A Bible Verse
Teach children a verse related to the character’s life – this is another great way to reinforce the life of the character. Memorizing scripture is always great for children, and there are creative ways to do this to make it memorable and fun as well. I recommend making family craft for the verse in this way your family will have it as a reminder of this fun day.
Bible Character Play Day 5
Bible Character Dress Up role play
It’s character dress up day! Each member of the family can play their own version of the character. There are different aspects of the character’s life that can be portrayed. This make the activity unique in its own way. Let say you decide to do Paul – there are so many aspects of his life you can choose to portray. For example there is before his conversions on the road to Damascus, his ministry to Cornelius, his night in prison when he praise the gates opened with Silas. Dig in and see how you can have fun displaying the character from different angles. Your dress up day does not have to be extravagant or expensive the most important things is to have fun as you portray what was learnt throughout the entire activity.
