The Complete Book of 2D Shapes – Printable activity book

Hi Friends, it is here my very first digital printable product/activity book –    The Complete Book of 2D Shapes. I must admit; it was a bit of a process having it edited and reviewed but I think it’s ready for your use.  As a mom of two, I have used every 2D shape activity in this book for my own children. They loved it and I am still using it. They are the main reason why I developed it.  Certainly, I hope to capture your child’s attention.  There are a range of activities included to inspire your child’s shape learning ability and prepare them for future steps in their education. This activity book contains 55 pages of activities that teach 14 two-dimensional shapes.

As your child uses this learning tool, they will cultivate skills in drawing, making and identifying these 2d shapes. And the best thing is that your child can work at their own pace or a pace that is comfortable for you.

This book offers several difficulty levels to assist in fostering various skills and challenge their learning. Engaging exercises at differing levels will aid in developing your child’s skill in spotting and drawing the 2D shapes focused on in this printable book.

Book Features and Goals

The complete book of 2D shapes caters to children ages 3 – 6 years old.  Preschoolers to early kindergartens. There are 42 pages of focused 2D shape practice, 13 bonus (B) pages of shape activities to verify how your child understands these shapes. As your child focuses on each of the exercises at different levels they will achieve the following:

  1. Early shape recognition success –  Shapes are displayed in a variety of ways and exercises in this printable book. With your assistance, your child will learn to identify and recall each shape. In some activities, the shapes are presented to encourage children to differentiate them from other shapes.

  1. Shape drawing readiness for the age level – All shapes are introduced to the child in the form of a shape tracing worksheet where they identify the shape and practice drawing it. For some of the more difficult 2D shapes, these tracing exercises are reinforced with additional practice tracing.
  2. Hand-eye coordination and development of fine motor skills – Along with tracing practice, your child will also be engaged in coloring, cutting and pasting, identifying patterns, and differentiating sizes of shapes. As your child goes through each activity their hand-eye coordination is developed. Sticking various-sized shapes will also contribute to the maturing of their fine motor skills. There are so many great and simple ways to develop your child’s motor skills do check out some of the ones I have used here.

Why I created this printable

Truth is I never imagine myself being a stay-at-home mom. I resigned from my last job just before giving birth to my daughter. I enjoyed what I did, but I knew it would be costly being absent so often from key moments in both of my children’s development so I had to make a choice.

Having said that facilitating their learning has become so special in this journey. Sometimes it’s tough but it’s always enjoyable. My children are the inspiration for developing this printable and the ones to come. I have enjoyed using so many other great books and printables that are available.  Just felt I have the ability to start creating some of my own. So I have just started and I hope you stick with me through this journey.

More About What This book offers

As I mentioned earlier this book contains a variety of exercises for fourteen 2d shapes. The shapes are rectangle, oval, cross, semi-circle, square, diamond, pentagon, crescent, circle, star, heart, triangle, hexagon, trapezoid. In addition, there are 13 bonus pages for your child along with a few other surprises.

Each shape has three activities that will help your child learn the particular 2D shape. Where there are more than 3 activities the fourth is a bonus activity. Each 2D shape has a tracing exercise, which is vital to help your child learn to draw the shape.

I recommend that these tracing pages be laminated if you want to use them for continual practice. I allow my son to use a dry erase marker to do some of these exercises repeatedly. However, it’s not mandatory to do so since you also have the option of printing the page as much as your child needs to practice a particular shape. I must say though that I do find it beneficial to allow children to draw using different options, so pencil, crayons, markers as so fort can be used for these tracing exercises. Try various writing tools and comment below as to the differences you notice.

Printing Your 2D Shapes activity Book

For the best result print these worksheets on US letter size paper. You can laminate several of the pages if you wish to reuse them. This is especially useful if you have multiple learners that are around the same age. You don’t need to have a laminating machine I have laminated pages with my household iron.  Do be careful it’s a skill that requires careful effort. I usually place things I am laminating on a cotton pillowcase then fold it over so the item to be laminated is sandwiched between the pillowcase. Once the iron has reached maximum heat (no water added) I pass the iron over the pillowcase from left to right slowly. You will actually feel some tension in the iron that will help you notice that you have laminated that page.

Possibilities for use

There are several ways you can prepare your book for your childs’ use. It all depends on what is available and easiest for you to do.

  1. You can have the sheets held together with a spiral binding which you can do if you have the means to or at a local print shop.
  2. Pages can be placed in plastic pockets and used with a ring bind. You do not necessarily need the plastic pockets, however, they are an alternative to laminating.
  3. You can also leave the sheets loose in a regular manilla folder and give your child the desired pages in the order that you wish.

Parental Involvement

Of course, it’s always great to be involved in your educational growth when you are able to. Some of the exercises required more supervision than others. More importantly, is motivating your child as they do these 2d shape activities.  They need your support and encouragement! If they don’t get it perfect right away that’s ok still cheer them on. Sometimes, it may be easy to become impatient, do be encouraged. They will get it. I have included a special bonus for parents to use to help make your involvement even more fun. You will stumble upon it when you make your purchase. It’s our secret.

It’s always great to remain as positive as possible when it comes to your child. After all, you are the most important teacher they have. I will also take this opportunity to inspire you to speak life over your child. If you are not sure how, click the link below to read this post where I share some simple ways.

Purchasing This Book

In purchasing this book, add it to your cart on Esty from your account and follow the prompts. Unfortunately, my country is not on the list of countries that accept Etsy payments so I am not sure what option they will offer to you. However, PayPal is the basic option. You may not need to have a PayPal account depending on where you are since once you get to this stage it may give you the option to just pay with your card. But I am not certain as you go through the process that’s when you will really find out.
